Auditions - Second Chance

For everyone that was not able to make Saturday's audition mixer, we are still offering you the chance to come and join our already talented cast.

Monday, April 12, at 7:00 PM during the tri-ward FHE, we will be set up again down at the Buena Vista Chapel. Anyone interested in auditioning is invited stop by the Relief Society room to do so.

Remember, we've made the audition process as painless as we possibly can. We've provided you with a selection of karaoke songs (see below) that will be available to perform from in the audition room. You don't have to memorize a thing for this audition. You are also welcome to come and sing any song you're already familiar with so we can just get some kind of sense for your voice.

If auditioning or singing a solo sounds a little too intimidating but you would still like to participate in some way, just stop by the room and have a chat with us. We have plenty of chorus parts as well as non-singing roles. We also need crew for all the behind-the-scenes stuff. Please come. You will definitely want to be a part of this!

PLEASE HELP US GET THE WORD OUT TO ALL OF YOUR YSA & INSTITUTE FRIENDS IMMEDIATELY BY EMAILING, TEXTING, CALLING, OR EVEN JUST TELLING THEM THE OLD-FASHIONED WAY!!!

Tips for Audition Day

For breakfast, try to avoid anything dairy, and don't get too full. We recommend a light breakfast of eggs or non-citrus fruit as this will not affect your singing voice.

We will also have some singer-friendly foods available for you to eat at the mixer.

See you all at the Buena Vista Chapel at 10 am!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Summer Muchness Dinner & Music Theatre is not going to be like any Church activity you’ve likely been involved with before. We have BIG, BIG plans!

This blog will be your source for everything you will need as it pertains to this activity (i.e. announcements, reminders, scheduling, audition and performance material, and other vital resources)

When: The actual event will occur Saturday, July 31 @ 6:30 PM at the Buena Vista Chapel, BUT we are holding auditions right away!

The format of this dinner theatre is up-tempo, fast-paced and includes a sampling of 12 songs from various Broadway musicals. It will be a full-scale production with costumes, make-up, sets, lighting, & music. The nice thing is that joining the cast will only require a commitment to one song, and then you are free to sit and enjoy the rest of the performances from the audience (however, cast members are welcome to participate in more than one number if they wish).

Our goal is to include everyone from the 3 Reno/Sparks YSA wards & Institute who wish to participate.

WHAT WE NEED:

cast/performers:
  • Singers (soloists & chorus)
  • Dancers
  • Actors (speaking & non-speaking)

crew:
  • Lighting & Sound Techs
  • Spotlight Operators
  • Camera Operators
  • Photographers/Photo Journalists
  • Costumers
  • Hair & Make-Up Specialists
  • Stage Hands
  • Prop Masters
  • Set Designers
  • Decorators (for the dining area)
  • Choreographers
  • Master of Ceremonies/Host(ess)
  • Musicians (to play music @ the beginning while people arrive)
  • Any other talents anyone thinks might enhance the whole experience, we’re open to – please let us know how you can help (YSAmuchness@gmail.com)

AUDITIONS/MIXER:
There will be a mixer on Saturday, April 10 @ 10:00 a.m. at the Buena Vista Chapel (the day after Impromptute) during which the auditions will be held. We’re making the auditions really easy for everyone. Just come to the mixer and fill out an audition form so we know what you’re interested in and what your schedule is, etc. Then we’ll pull you out one by one to audition privately. The best part is that we’ve prepared all your audition material for you. A selection of karaoke songs will be posted here on the blog in the next few days for everyone to audition with. The very karaoke clips that are on the blog will be the ones we’ll have ready in the audition room. You don’t have to memorize anything for the audition, but we want you to be familiar enough with your selection. All we want is to get a sense of your voice and how you perform (meaning just think about the character you’re playing and what he/she is saying).

You may prepare a song other than the ones we’ve provided, but let us know via email (YSAmuchness@gmail.com) so we can be prepared to accommodate you (i.e. with a CD player, a DVD player, a computer, etc.)

If you want to act but do not wish to sing, you may prepare a monologue. You can even use the lyrics to one of the songs we’ve provided as your monologue.

Note: this will be a ticketed event with limited capacity. The tickets are free but are required for entrance and will be distributed beforehand. If you are part of the cast or crew you are guaranteed a seat.

Preliminary Inquiry of Interest forms are currently being circulated. If you have not received the opportunity to put your name and email address on one and are interested in participating in this activity, please send an email to YSAmuchness@gmail.com letting us know what you're interested in doing (cast or crew). This will help ensure that you will be included in the email list to which important reminders and announcements will be sent out regarding this activity.

Something else of note: A few community professionals have already caught word of what we are doing here and have expressed interest in volunteering their time to coach and train cast and crew members in various capacities!

We hope you are able to catch the vision of what we’re doing and are as excited about this as we are! It’s going to be a lot of fun, and the food is going to be amazing (we have a special menu designed specifically for this event)! You will not want to miss out on this!
